Give us today our daily bread

To the premises of the Generation Church in Ewell today, to learn about how the Epsom and Ewell Foodbank  operates.

The manager of the project, Jonathan Lees, is also pastor of the Generation Church. He explained that the food is donated by shoppers at local supermarkets in response to leaflets, and collections are taken back to a central point for sorting. Boxes are packed, and sent to the distribution points.
Families or individuals in crisis are identified by professionals (e.g. Doctors, community workers, Police or Probation officers) who are able to give a voucher - this voucher can be 'cashed' at one of the distribution points. The box that is given is 'customised' according to the make up of the family.
As they leave, the recipients are asked if they would like to be prayed for, and the response is usually positive.

At St Peter's, we have been exploring the possibility of hosting such a distribution point. I'm hopeful that after today's visit we will be able to make that happen in The Mount area of our parish, and possibly in partnership with a couple of other local churches.

More to come!
