A Village event

The crowds came out in force yesterday for the Village May Queen Fete 2013  and the organisers of this annual event had done a great job in ensuring smooth running.

You may be aware that the crowning of a May Queen doesn't get marked in the Anglican cycle of things...but the community gets stuck into this Fete, so the church was also there.

We ran some traditional races (sack race, egg and spoon) for children in the main arena. Cheered on by the parents around the edge it was a fun half an hour!
Our marquee offered free hand painting for kids (and an occasional adult), coffee and a large, comfortable sofa for parents as they waited for their kids, plus literature about our summer holiday club and more info on who we are and what we do as a church.

The main attraction to the marquee was the Lemon Challenge:

'Is it possible to balance a coin on a lemon that is floating in water?'

We provided a selection of coins and invited people to rest a coin on top of the lemon whilst it was floating in the water. It had to rest on top of the lemon for 5 seconds before falling into the water, to count as a successful attempt.
Hundreds (no exaggeration) of people had a go - some were gripped and had numerous attempts - but there were only two successes all day. Try it yourself...

The point of that was then to ask the question

'Is it possible to see God?'

Visitors to the marquee were invited to take a card that pointed them to Jesus 'the image of the invisible God' and an invitation to St Peter's Church.

It was a great day - thanks to everyone from St Peter's who got involved in any way, and to the organisers for putting on a well-run event.
