A Compassionate Christmas Tree
In the foyer of Holy Trinity Church there is a Christmas Tree with a difference.
It has been put together by Anne Smith with help from a number of others. Anne explains the purpose of the tree below.
The "Is it a Tree or a blanket” project started with a challenge from a friend from Betchworth Church, writing in The Bridge (the Southwark Diocesan Newspaper), for all churches in the diocese to make a knitted tree for Syria.
I asked the church members through Women@HT to knit an 8” green square and had in total 341 squares knitted by HT Family and Friends with ages ranging from 12 upwards. These squares will be displayed as a Christmas tree in the Church and afterwards joined together to make a blanket or 2 for Syrian refugees.I am hoping to encourage members to help with the next stage of the project, the blankets...
Anne was assisted in the task of attaching the 341 squares (using bauble hooks) by Rachel Hart. They were encouraged from the sidelines by occasional visitors including me and Anne's aptly named grandson, Bradley Wool...I'll get my coat...
Come and see it for yourself over Christmas
If you would like to help to turn the tree into blankets after Christmas, then get in touch with Anne via the church office: office@htredhill.com
