From Portsmouth to Redhill!
A day of celebration today as Dave and Gay Arrowsmith were given a warm welcome to Holy Trinity.
Dave is joining the staff team as our Children and Families Minister, a post that has been some months in the making. The role has been shaped to have a focus on helping families to learn together and to share faith together in Christ.
They showed great stamina in coming to be interviewed and welcomed at all 4 services, in the course of which they were twice treated to a 'Party Popper Salute' from our children and youth. The photo shows them at the end of the Sunday@7 service, looking remarkably fresh!
Dave told of how he left his previous appointment as a Children's Minister 6 years ago, believing himself to be called to a more family-focussed ministry. In the intervening years he had gone back into employment in the world of engineering, whilst volunteering at his local church. The advertisement for our Children and Families Minister role had come into his inbox, but he had initially dismissed it - only when it appeared on his screen 4 times in one afternoon did he think that perhaps he should look more closely at it... What he discovered was a job description very closely matching the type of ministry that he had felt he was being called to when he left his previous ministry post.
Their move has involved them selling up their home in Portsmouth to buy in Redhill, and leaving behind their son, Chris, who is getting married in Portsmouth next year.
I'm looking forward to working alongside Dave, and to welcoming this committed and delightful couple into the church family in weeks to come.
A prayer from our notice sheet today:
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the arrival of our new Families and Children's Minister.
We pray for Dave and Gay as they settle into a new home, a new area and a new church.
We pray for Dave as he works in a new staff team alongside new colleagues.
We pray for our Children's leaders and helpers as they work alongside Dave.
Please strengthen our church family life, that the name of Jesus may be honoured in every heart and every home. Amen
